Recently elected Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown has withdrawn an unfair labor practice complaint against the police union that was filed in June by his predecessor, John Peyton. The original complaint stemmed from negotiations with the Fraternal Order of Police that had gone on for almost two years. The city became upset when the FOP requested that an already long-delayed hearing by a special magistrate be pushed back to mid-September.
Mayor Brown is hoping to make a fresh start with the union, and FOP President Nelson Cuba appreciates the new attitude.
“We are open to sit down and come to an agreement between both parties,” he said. “Hopefully, there’s flexibility on both sides.”
