Brownsville commission votes to cancel firefighter contract

BROWNSVILLE, TX &#8211 The Brownsville City Commission has voted to terminate the collective bargaining agreement with the Brownsville Firefighters Association, Local No. 970. The commission also passed a resolution authorizing the continuation of certain pay and benefits.

The resolution maintains base pay, seniority pay, longevity pay, supplemental pay, assignment pay, tuition reimbursement, clothing allowance, holiday pay, vacation leave and sick-leave accrual, but health insurance benefits, life insurance, step-up pay, and hurricane pay would be at the same level as non-union employees.
