OMAHA, NE – After years of negotiations, the City of Omaha and its firefighters still don’t have a contract. The one they agreed upon was sent to the city council, who, after heavily amending the agreement, rejected it. The city now has three options: 1) Try once more to push the deal through the city council; 2) go back to the negotiating drawing board or 3) take the battle to the Nebraska Commission of Industrial Relations, the state’s labor court.
City Councilman Chris Jerram is hoping against that last option.
“Litigation is fraught with peril. Sit down at the table and work it out. Control your own destiny rather than have it be determined for you,” Jerram said.
