UNION CITY, NJ – Charles Everett makes $209,700 a year as police chief of Union City, New Jersey. To make ends meet, he also works a $60-an-hour security job for a recreational center run by the Board of Education. Recent reports that the chief has not actually been working the security job have led Mayor Brian Stack to hire an independent investigator to examine the claims and recommend any necessary action.
“My office views such accusations with great urgency,” Stack said in the statement, “As always, my objective is to ensure transparent and efficient government.”
News reports indicate that Chief Everett has been seen working out at the police gym and attending a 9/11 memorial service during times he was on the clock for his second job. Everett has been paid $45,000 thus far from his second job.
