Quite A Week In Miami: FOP Supports Mayor’s Recall, Then Mayor Asks Department Of Justice To Investigate PD

MIAMI, FL – Mayor Thomas Regaldo has requested the Department of Justice investigate the police department’s use of force policies after nine police-involved shooting since April 2010. Seven of these incidents resulted in fatalities to black men.

In a letter to US Attorney General Eric Holder, Regalado asked “the DOJ to review the policies and practices of the MPD regarding the use of force and the procedures for subsequent investigations following such incidents in which the use of force, including the use of deadly force, have taken place.”

Mayor Regaldo has had a shaky relationship with his police chief, Miguel Exposito, and the FOP. We posted last week about the city’s efforts to get Chief Exposito to retire, and the FOP is supporting a recall effort against the mayor.
