WASHINGTON, DC – The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C. is making overtime payments to officers forced to work extra shifts in 2009 under the “All Hands On Deck” (AHOD) policy. The overtime payments were ordered by a 2009 arbitration decision, which was upheld by the District’s Public Employee Relations Board last August. The District did not appeal the ruling.
FOP President Kristopher Baumann says the arbitrator’s ruling should apply to all AHODs dating back to 2007. A spokesperson for the department says that Police Chief Cathy Lanier believes AHOD is an effective crime-fighting tool and there are no plans to end it.
The next AHOD weekend is scheduled for Oct. 21 through 23.
