firefighters union issues public apology to city manager

SOLANA BEACH, CA &#8211 The Solana Beach Firefighters Association has issued a public apology to Solano Beach City Manager David Ott after insinuating in print and online that the city manager wanted to reduce firefighter staffing. The city manager had never formally proposed any reductions.

Because of the literature, a routine City Council meeting in August to reduce the city budget deficit lasted roughly two hours because firefighters and residents filled the chambers and voiced concerns.

On Wednesday, Union President Eric Phillips was flanked by several firefighters when he read the apology to Ott during the public comment portion of the City Council meeting.

“David Ott is a man who has dedicated his life to public service, and he is a man who truly has a servant’s heart,” Phillips read in part. “Our membership displayed a lack of judgment by questioning his character, and in the process, hurt him to the core. So for this, we are truly sorry.”
