ASHLAND, MA – Ashland’s embattled police chief has been placed on paid administrative leave and his contract will not be renewed when it expires in June.
Town Manager Anthony Schiavi announced Monday that a search for a new chief will be launched and a “bottom-up” review of the department will be conducted.
Chief Scott Rohmer has been on the force 28 years, the last six as chief. Last year, the police union approved a no confidence vote in him. He is facing retaliation and discrimination complaints and was accused of ordering an officer to forensically search his wife’s computer.
Rohmer says he is shocked by the move and Schiavi, who just took office, does not understand he is not to blame for problems in the department. He also announced a run for selectman.
