SAN ANTONIO, TX – Some Texas firefighters are being told not to wear uniforms for fear of being targeted following a threat in Houston.
Firefighters in San Antonio have been told to wear generic clothing on their way to work. They are not to wear San Antonio Fire Department polo shirts or other T-shirts with logos in light of recent attacks on first responders and police.
The department heard of a threat against a fire captain in Houston and decided to take action.
“We are at a disadvantage just by the nature of what we do, but again, if we can improve the awareness of the firefighters in all activities that we do, then we’re going to try to make them a little bit safer,” San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said.
The San Antonio Fire Department is also considering extra training for crews to ensure their safety.
