ST. LOUIS, MO – A group of firefighters from the St. Louis Fire Department will join a nationwide effort to help fire departments in Kenya.
The program, called Africa Fire Mission, helps teach firefighters in African countries how to stay safe while fighting fires. It will also help teach the Kenyan firefighters how to better prepare their response and relief time when emergency strikes.
Five firefighters from St. Louis will join 15 more from across the nation and travel to Nairobi, Kenya in November.
Africa Fire Mission was originally founded by a firefighter following a visit to Kenya. The founder learned that in Nairobi, the capital of the county, there are only 150 firefighters serving 5 million people.
