Assistant Fire Chief In Union Referred To Congresswomen As More ‘Lazy And Stupid’ Than Slaves

A now-deleted social media comment from the assistant fire chief of the Union Fire Protection District referred to several minority Democratic congresswomen criticized by President Donald Trump on Wednesday as more “lazy and stupid” than slaves.

Trump took jabs at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Ilhan Omar-D-Minn., Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., during the rally. Criticisms of Omar, who came to the U.S. from Somalia as a child, led to a change of “send her back” at the rally.

U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Channahon, said in a tweet Thursday morning that he was disgusted by the chant.

“I deeply disagree with the extreme left and have been disgusted by their tone,” Kinzinger said. “I woke up today equally disgusted – chants like ‘send her back’ are ugly, wrong and would send chills down the spines of our Founding Fathers. This ugliness must end or we risk our great union.”

A comment on the Northwest Herald Facebook page’s referring to Kinzinger’s tweet read, “True, the Founding Fathers would have kept them as slaves,”

A reply to this comment from Union Fire Protection District Assistant Fire Chief Tim Camp said, “No, they are way too lazy and stupid to be slaves. Please don’t put slaves down like that.”

Camp and Union Fire Chief Brian Heimsoth could not be reached for comment. A message left at Camp’s home was not returned.

The district website states that employees and members are expected to maintain a professional attitude.

“We recognize that our personal conduct is inseparable from the professional reputation of the Union Fire Protection District,” the statement reads. “We believe in a team-oriented positive and honest working environment along with a professional attitude for all our employees and members.”
