BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Baltimore’s police union is questioning continuing the federal consent decree that has governed the department since 2017 after officials in New Orleans have begun pushing for that city’s police to be run without federal oversight.
“The only people benefitting from the consent decree are the overpriced, out-of-town consultants. surely not the citizens or the police officers,” the union wrote on Twitter Thursday.
But while the two departments may be similarly regulated, New Orleans has had about five more years to make the reforms required under its decree.
