Union President Says Bucyrus Firefighters Are ‘Bracing For Retaliation’ After Raises

The president of the city firefighters’ union said members are “bracing for the retaliation from this administration” after Bucyrus City Council accepted a fact-finder’s report that includes raises that exceed what the union requested.

“We feel that city council has our backs, but there’s always that chance that the administration — the mayor, safety service director — are going to try to talk council into reducing our staffing. Especially with their support of our contract now,” Jeremy Gillam, president of International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1120, said Thursday. “We’re going to brace for that possible direct retaliation if that comes around.”
