Racine Police Signing Bonus To Boost Staffing Levels

The Racine Police chief isn’t sugarcoating his staffing situation but stopped short of calling it a crisis. “I would say that is a serious level,” police Chief Maurice Robinson told WISN 12 News reporter Hillary Mintz.

The chief was sitting down with WISN 12 News on Wednesday just as the police union and city are close to finalizing a new contract; something officers have worked without for two years.

In Racine, Robinson said gun crime rose 63% from 2019-21, but dropped 24% between 2021-22.
