Hartford Police Officer Demoted Following ‘Dead Pool’ Text In 2020 Reassigned To Detective Role Amid Criticism

A Hartford police officer demoted from his detective rank in 2020 and handed a four-month suspension following a text message asking for “dead pool” wagers has been reassigned back to a detective role — a move that has drawn criticism from some Hartford City Council and community members.

Jeffrey Placzek took on the detective assignment in the Background Division in February after applying for the move in November, according to a city of Hartford memorandum obtained by the Courant.
