Union-led Lawsuit Could Reshape Fire Service Gear, SC Firefighters Weigh In

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — A lawsuit in New England has implications that could lead to changes within the fire service nationwide. The International Association of Fire Fighters is suing the National Fire Protection Association over a rule that sets the standards for what is believed to be the ideal protective material inside firefighting bunker gear.

The gear in question is also called turnout gear and is personal protective equipment. The IAFF alleges the equipment may cause more harm than good.
