More Western Pennsylvania Fire And Police Departments Are Merging, Mirroring National Trends

Last month, Aspinwall and Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Departments announced they will merge under the name Southern Allegheny Valley Emergency Services — a move that will impact over 5,000 residents the combined municipalities serve.

The merger means Aspinwall and Sharpsburg Volunteer fire departments will operate under the same budget, share fire equipment, report to one fire chief and respond to calls as a team. Neither firehouse has announced closing – though that has happened with other consolidations.
