Fight Over Patch Ends With Union Dropping Grievance, Sheriff Withdrawing Lawsuit

Syracuse, N.Y. — The union representing the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office police deputies has decided not to fight a lawsuit filed by the county after submitting a grievance against a proposed uniform change.

The Onondaga County Deputy Sheriffs’ Police Association filed a grievance on May 31 after Sheriff Toby Shelley announced that he would be replacing department-specific arm patches with a standard patch that says “sheriff.”
