Lawsuit Claims Former Glenville Police Officer Lost Certification Due To ‘Personal Vendetta’

GLENVILLE — A former Glenville police officer who resigned last August after facing disciplinary charges for filing a false workers’ compensation claim has taken legal action against the state and town after losing his police certification — a move he claims was retaliatory and violated the terms of an arbitration agreement.  

Benjamin Ferretti filed the lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Schenectady County last month, claiming the state’s Division of Criminal Justice Services wrongly terminated his police certification on March 21 after Glenville Police Chief Stephen Janik provided documentation containing “numerous false statements” months after he left the department on good terms to pursue employment elsewhere.
