Police Accountability Board Can’t Discipline Officers, Court Says. What’s Next For PAB?

The Police Accountability Board cannot discipline Rochester’s police officers, the state’s highest court ruled Monday.

For some, that decision uproots the agency’s mission. Its disciplinary power was intentionally designed to embolden accountability and transparency around police misconduct in a way the city has never seen before.

Without it, the agency is little more than a paper tiger.
