ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — The union for the city’s firefighters is opposing planned state-imposed reductions in supervisory roles, reallocations of resources and brownouts of the engine company in the Inlet, union President John Varallo said Tuesday.

Varallo, of Atlantic City Professional Fire Fighters Local 198, said the city and state have decided to permanently fill 11 supervisory positions rather than the expected 13 who are in acting positions right now.

Varallo was number 12 on the list, he said, and wonders whether the action was aimed at punishing him for his role as union president.
