WEST HAVEN, CT — The West Haven police union has sued to have a new pension plan implemented, citing a state oversight board’s inability to take a vote on the union’s new contract before a 30-day window expired.

The United Public Service Employees Union Local 895 filed a writ of mandamus on Oct. 31, naming the city of West Haven and the Municipal Accountability Review Board as defendants. The lawsuit cites a state statute stating that collective bargaining agreements submitted to the MARB must be acted upon within 30 days of their submission to the MARB or else the agreement “shall be considered approved.”
