State Judge Rules Suffolk Police Must Turn Over Officer Misconduct Records

A state judge has ordered the Suffolk Police Department to turn over misconduct records to the New York Civil Liberties Union.

The ruling comes after the county and police department improperly claimed they did not have to release the results of internal affairs investigations when allegations of misconduct were declared unsubstantiated.

The county argued in court papers that the redactions were necessary to protect officers’ personal identity and private information.
