Memphis Police Ranking Violates Agreement With Union, Arbitrator Rules

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A group of Memphis Police officers who recently got promotions could soon be demoted.

This comes after an arbitrator ruled the city violated an agreement with the Memphis Police Association’s by creating a new role without proper negotiations.

It all started with the Memphis Police Department’s creation of a Second Lieutenant role and not only creating that role, but changing the requirements for it.
