New Study Finds First Responders Twice As Likely To Contract COVID-19

Tyrone Bell’s dream was to become a firefighter; he worked at it for nearly a decade before finally joining the Verde Valley Fire Department in 2017. “He would feed you and then work you into the dirt,” says Danny Johnson, the Verde Valley Fire Chief.

Johnson says Bell was a certified chief and was known for his cooking and intense workouts and being a dedicated firefighter until his passing on October 18th.

The firefighter lost his fight against COVID-19, a virus Johnson says Bell contracted while transporting COVID-19 patients to the hospital while on the job. “He’s just going to be missed around here, and one of the guys said there is going to be a Tyrone-sized hole that is not going to be filled anytime soon,” said Johnson.
